| The Vishahareswara Temple is a temple of Shiva in the Thiruvarur district of Tamil Nadu. The temple was built in the early 1800s in the village of Kodandaramapuram, which later became part of Avanam Paruthiyur situated on the banks of Kudamurutti River a tributary of Kaveri. The temple is south facing. The presiding deity of this temple is a form of Shiva called Vishahareswarar and his consort Prasanna Parvathy Devi. The temple is open to the public mornings and evenings. Special pujas on Pradhosham days. Shivarathri is celebrated in a special way in this temple. In addition it is said that the Poison of a snake will be ineffective at this place and that is the truth too! Though there are so many snakes and cobras in every nook and corner of the village there had never been a snakebite or poison attack. It is also believed worshiping Shiva & Parvathy here at this place one gets relieved of the evil effects of Rahu, Kethu and Mars and marriages will be finalized. Parithi means the Sun. Since it was here where the sun worshiped Lord Shiva this holy place got its name Parithipuram. People with poisonous bites and deadly diseases come from distant places and to pray to Vishahareswarar, the poison remover. Devotees may send in their contributions for the mammoth project to the Treasurer of the Trust, No. 31, Paruthiyur Post Sengalipuram - 612604, Thiruvarur District as DD, cheque or money order.
